Ta Merrick
The day is not over yet, but it was weird. Yesterday I was a "young citizen". Today in some places like public transportation I'm a "senior citizen", while in others like social security or city taxes I'm still a "young citizen". Add to that a splitting headache that developed during the day, and it's the weirdest b-day I've ever had.
The only thing I managed to do today is upgrading my "rav-kav" (our version to your London oyster) to senior citizen status which entitle me to 50% off the bus & train fares.

Happy Birthday & hope your headache goes away quickly. It's not right to have a headache on one's birthday when one hasn't done anything to illicit such things. You haven't been doing anything to illicit one, have you? If so, drink more water & pace yourself.

I usually don't do this in as much as I am still waiting for my 18th.

Happy birthday Z!

How old are you, Z? We get a few things in the US at 55, like meal discounts at some restaurants and a discount at Good Will (a thrift store), but most of the important stuff is at 65.

Poor Z. I thought your headache was at the office because his vacation fell through?

I'm 60. According the old law I was supposed to be senior citizen at this age. But they changed it to 62 and 4 months, and there is talk about moving it to 64 for women. At 60 I only get discounts in public transportation. The rest including social security payments will have to wait till November 2017

I don't feel any different and my summer day uniform are still Bermuda shorts, t-shirt and snickers

I will be 64 and 7 months when I get my state pension. They gradually moved it from 60. Originally I would get it at 60 then, like Z, it was 62 and a few months now it's been moved again Worked out I have lost about 40,000 because of the changes

Here once upon a time, it was 55. The idea was to get older workers to retire and the younger workers could move up. Still younger workers would then have a job. They tried something similar during the Depression by offering youth the chance to go to high school. That got the kids more education, but it also kept them out of the work force. I guess it isn't working for retirement: they moved that to 65 and they're offering us more money to wait until we are 70. I'm 62, and while I'm retired, I'm living on my own little money - and on my husband. I guess that makes me a kept woman.

I'm doing the same, Cool. I almost wish I hadn't retired but I hated being there so took the chance. I make the jewellery and pendants to try to earn a bit but it doesn't being in much so I'm basically a kept woman for a few more years.

I will admit I don't pay tax anymore as I don't earn enough but I would if I did.

Wish I was busy with summer Instead I'm busy with work, house work and trying not to melt in the unbearable humidity. It's hot here (30-31c) but the humidity is the real killer. It's still a month till the twit's trip (crossing fingers that his granddaughters will not break any more hands etc.), and I can't wait for the happy moment. The new nuclear pact with Iran doesn't make me happy either

I guess I meant 'life' This year has come and gone so fast and there is always something happening. I would love some down time but even when we go away it's never a rest.

It's good 'the twit' has rearranged the trip

The world is a mess isn't it and the ordinary folk have no say in what goes on.

I hate technical problems that I can't do anything to fix In the last couple of days I found several voice messages on my land line that were left when I was near the phone and didn't hear the phone ringing. I dismissed it thinking that at the exact moment I was probably away from the phone and that's why I didn't hear it. This afternoon it happened again. The phone didn't ring but a voice message was left. This time I was sure that I was by the phone and it didn't ring. So I dialed from my mobile and discovered that the land line doesn't ring. I called the phone company, was no. 19 and waited 45 minutes online till a tech answered. He did whatever he did at his end, dialed to the landline and it rang. 5 minutes later a friend called me and the phone rang. Hallelujah!!! Or not, because couple of hours later again I noticed that there is another voice message that was left because again the phone didn't ring. Again I dialed to it from the mobile and saw that the problem is back. So I called again the phone company, was told that I'm no. 38 inline and disconnected. Tomorrow is Saturday, I'll try again in the morning hopefully there will be less callers. If not I'll have to wait till Sunday morning when it's a regular working day. GRRRR
